Humblebeeabroad.com is the photo-blog of Amanda Reid, an Australian born photographer, digital nomad and whisky lover. Amanda has long had a passion for travel, design and the unconventional.

In 2015, at the age of 34, Amanda ran away from home to see the world. She was supposed to travel from country to country, taking lovely photographs, consuming as much local food and drink and culture as possible, then move onto the next destination.

However, fate/life/love intervened, and not long into her grand adventure, she got a bit side-tracked. Amanda currently resides on the Isle of Islay, Scotland, because instead of simply staying for only 4 days as initially planned, she decided to get UK residency instead. There’s a lot of good whisky on Islay. There’s also a rather nice Scottish bloke she somewhat fancies (and it’s purely coincidence that he works at a distillery) :).

Amanda did manage to visit a few places other than Islay in 2015 – Japan, Ireland, other non-Islay parts of Scotland, France, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark. In October of 2016, Amanda walked the Camino Portuguese with her friend Dave, from Porto to Santiago de Compostela. If you’d like to read up on this misadventure, you can find all the posts here.

Amanda’s travel and photography plans for 2017 include: returning to Australia for summer (Scottish winters are pretty to look at, but bloody cold in reality), to walk the West Highland Way before the midges resurface (I’m thinking May/June), and an extensive sojourn to France or Spain (desperately want to improve my language skills), perhaps to tackle some sections of the Camino Frances.

This website is to showcase some of the beautiful sites I’ve seen, and document some of the lessons I’ve learned.
